The 7th International Conference on

Transportation and Space-time Economics (TSTE 2019)

11-13 October, 2019 | Beijing, China

Call for papers for a Special Session of the 7th International Conference on Transportation and Space-time Economics (TSTE), 11-13 October 2019, Beijing, China

Title of the Special Session:

Cycling all over the world

Given the detrimental effects of car transportation on accessibility, livability and health, policy makers around the world look at cycling as an attractive alternative for car transport. Distances up to 10 kilometer can be cycled, and cycling is sustainable, non-polluting, healthy and mood enhancing.  Various innovations have taken place in the context of cycling, including shared bicycle systems (both docked and dockless) and E-bikes (for personal transportation and goods delivery), which have contributed to increased levels of cycling in many places. However, a transition toward cycling is not always without problems. Issues regarding traffic and social safety, lack of infrastructure and parking, but also side effects of massive bicycle use (congestion and blocked sidewalks) require attention. This session invites contributions describing experiences with cycling across the world. Topics may include (but are not limited to):

  • Impact of infrastructural policies on cycling levels

  • Adoption of E-bike and bike sharing

  • Analysis of big data of bike share systems

  • Route choice of cyclists

  • Design of cycling infrastructure

  • Health effects of cycling

  • Well-being effects of cycling

  • Adoption of cycling and E-bike use

  • Built environment impact on cycling
