Call for papers for a Special Session of the 7th International Conference on Transportation and Space-time Economics (TSTE), 11-13 October 2019, Beijing, China



Transport Economics and Management

Scope and Topics:

This special session will cover economics and management issues broadly related to transport and logistics, as well as topics of general interest to all transport and network industries. It further combines a wide range of empirical and theoretical studies. Sample topics include the role of business and leisure passengers for airport pricing and investments, the choice of slots and congestion pricing policies in airport networks, high speed rail, the optimal robustness of transport schedules etc. The session welcome studies based on economic analysis, network modelling, and empirical investigations, and studies analyzing business and policy decisions in the transport sector (aviation, maritime, rail and road transport) are all welcomed.

Profile of Session Organizers:

Co-Chair   Dr. Achim   I. Czerny,Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Dr. Achim   I. Czerny is Associate Professor at the Department of Logistics and Maritime   Studies (LMS), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Director of a new   academic program in Aviation Management and Logistics. Previously he was   employed as a researcher at the VU University of Amsterdam, Department of   Spatial Economics, and an Assistant Professor of Regulatory Economics at the   WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. He studied Economics at the TU   Berlin and holds a doctoral degree in Economics from the TU Berlin. Czerny’s   research interests cover the full range of topics in transportation   economics. He is the head of the local organizing committee of the   International Transportation Economics Association (ITEA) school and   conference hosted by LMS in 2018, a member of the Scientific Advisory Board   of the European Aviation Conference, and board member of the German Aviation   Research Society (GARS). He has published numerous research papers in   transportation journals and economics journals. He was awarded with the Best   Overall Paper Prize of the ITEA Conference on Transportation Economics (Kuhmo   Nectar) 2014 (with Anming Zhang) and the Certificate of Excellence in   Reviewing from Transportation Research Part B for the year 2013. 

Xiaowen Fu

Co-Chair   Dr.   Xiaowen Fu, Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Dr.   Xiaowen Fu is a Professor at the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE), Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His   main research area is transport economics which covers issues such as   competition policy and government regulation, efficiency benchmarking,   transport demand modelling and industrial organization. He has been the   principal investigator of close to 20 research grants and published more than   50 journal articles. He has been the guest editor of 5 journal special   issues, on the editorial boards of three journals including Transportation   Research – Part B, Part E, and is an editor of the journal of Transport   Policy, associate editor of the book series “Advances in Airlines Economics”.   Dr. Fu has provided advisory and economic modeling services to organizations   such as the Boeing Commercial Aircraft, New Zealand Commerce Commission,   Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Government of British Columbia   in Canada, Australian Competition Tribunal, Hong Kong Civil Aviation   Department, Hong Kong Transport and Housing Bureau, Japan Rail (East), and   OECD. He is the Vice President (Research) of the Air Transport Research   Society (ATRS), Vice President (Research) of the Institute for Aviation (UK),   founding chair of the Maritime Economy and Policy stream of the World   Transport Convention.
