Transportation and Space-time Economics (TSTE 2019)

11-13 October, 2019 | Beijing, China

Call for papers for a Special Session of the 7th International Conference on Transportation and Space-time Economics (TSTE), 11-13 October 2019, Beijing, China

Title of the Special Session:
Logistics planning for port and shipping

Jianfeng Zheng & Hongtao Hu

Dalian Maritime University & Shanghai Maritime University

Maritime transportation produces an estimated of 2.7% of the world’s CO2 emissions, of which 25% is attributable to containerships. An energy-efficient shipping service network is becoming increasingly important to all stakeholders. From carrier point of view, three are three decision-making levels: strategic, tactical and operational. Strategic-level decisions include ship fleet size and mix, alliance strategies, and shipping service network design. Tactical-level decisions are made every three to six months, including ship fleet deployment, sailing speed optimization, ship schedule construction. Operational-level decisions include cargo booking, cargo routing, and ship rescheduling. From port operators’ perspective, the main decision is the allocation and scheduling of port resources including berth, yard, quay cranes, yard cranes, etc. In addition, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has also implemented a number of policies on shipping regulations such as Emission Control Areas (ECAs). To this end, we hold a Special Session that invites contributions to address research problems related to port and shipping. The scopes and topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

(1) Ship fleet size and mix
(2) Alliance strategies
(3) Shipping service network design
(4) Ship fleet deployment
(5) Ship scheduling
(6) Cargo booking
(7) Green shipping
(8) Port resource allocation and scheduling

Submitted papers through strict review process will be recommended to and published in the Special Issue of SCI/SSCI journals.
