Big data has enriched our experiences of how urban dwellers travel and how cities function. Hence, it is offering copious opportunities for analyzing the interaction between travel behavior and urban planning. At the same time, the improvement of advanced theories and approaches for the data-driven travel behavior studies should be helpful to develop new ideas, concepts for urban planning, such as smart mobility, green city, and health city etc. Also, analysis of such data depicting transport accessibility is likely to open up a rich context for evaluating urban planning. On the other side, the rapid progress in urban planning should profoundly influence travel behavior, various mobility groups, and their spatial-temporal patterns, which are necessary to investigate. With these in mind, we organize a Special Session that invites the latest research in the opportunities, challenges, and solutions for using big data in the travel behavior analysis for urban planning. This session aims to promote idea, knowledge, and methodology exchange in the field. The scopes and topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
(1) Spatial-temporal travel behavior analysis for urban planning,
(2) Influence of urban planning on travel behavior,
(3) Accessibility evaluation for urban planning,
(4) Mobility group identification for urban planning,
(5) New methods for travel behavior analysis,
(6) Travel behavior and new urban theories.
Submitted papers that go through a highly competitive review process with will be recommended to and published in the Special Issue of SCI/SSCI journals.
